Tottenham Hotspur have become the first football club to feature the slogan “not all disabilities are visible” on their disabled toilets.
Some supermarkets, like ASDA and Tesco, are doing it too.
It’s all part of a move to try and help those people with invisible or ‘hidden’ illnesses, as some disabilities and long-term health conditions aren’t always physically obvious to an onlooker.
Hidden Illnesses
With health conditions like MS, ulcerative colitis, chronic fatigue syndrome, IBS, and Crohn’s disease; the symptoms are not always clear to others.
Many of them fear confrontation because they feel they don’t fit the image of a person with disabilities. With these new signs silent sufferers will hopefully be able to use disabled toilets without facing criticism from other users. Perhaps in the not too distant future other football clubs will follow suit, and hopefully other businesses too.
